Anyone with an interest in sustainable development and world geography can use this site! However, this project was specifically developed with Canadian youth ages 12–18 and their educators in mind.

This project was conceived and developed by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada in partnership with Canadian Geographic and Canadian Geographic Education and with the financial support of the Government of Canada.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. In addition to introducing youth to sustainable development concepts, this tool is intended to help students develop cartographic literacy. We opted to display data related to one theme at a time only to keep the map uncluttered and make it easier to understand, at a glance, the “story” told by the data. Keeping data layers to a minimum also reduces the loading time for the map!
